The cooperative

The people who pick it own the factory.

The Of Ozcay Agricultural Development Cooperative has grown tea in the hills above Of, on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, since 1989 — owned outright by the roughly 2,100 family growers who work its gardens.

Our process

Grown slow, picked by hand,
processed fresh.

  1. Picked by hand

Two and a half leaves — the cooperative’s own picking standard, taken by hand in the family gardens above Of.

  2. Processed among the gardens

The factory has stood in Of since 1988, minutes from the slopes it serves — fresh leaf goes straight in, up to a hundred tonnes a day in season.

  3. Steamed, not pan-fired

The green teas are steam-processed — the Japanese method — which holds their colour and aroma where pan-firing would trade it away.
